Good vision is essential to a child’s learning and reading performance. One in six children aged 5 to 12 have vision performance problems that can lead to learning difficulties.
Some of the symptoms that may indicate a child is experiencing vision problems include:
- Rubbing eyes repeatedly or excessive blinking
- Dislike and avoidance of close work
- Holding books closely or Using a finger as a place mark when reading
- Sitting too close to the television
- Holding head at an angle or shutting one eye to focus
Vision accounts for 80% of learning. This is why we recommend children should have their eyes examined annually to ensure potential disorders are detected. If you have a current Community Services Card or a High Health User Card and your child is up to 15-Years of age, you may be eligible for the Spectacle Subsidy.
